Agenda with materials
I. Welcome and introductions (Denise Page Hood)
II. Discussion Items
A. State and federal budget cuts---impact on the legal services system and on the human services systems serving legal aid clients (Gilda Jacobs, President and CEO, Michigan League for Human Services)
There have been federal budget cuts that have impacted current fiscal year appropriations and more cuts are proposed for Federal Fiscal Year 2012. There are also proposed state budget changes (on both the revenue and expense side) that will impact the judicial system as well as state and local human services systems. We'll receive a summary of these budget changes. We'd like all Planning Body members to come prepared to discuss what impacts they are seeing in their work and what options are available to continue critical services.
B. Crossroads implementation and Planning Body workplan
The Judicial Crossroads Final Report was issued January 26, 2011. We will receive a report on Bar and Court actions in response to the report, with a special focus on the most active issues arising from the Access to Justice Committee report---i.e., the Solutions on Self Help Task Force (Linda Rexer); Language Access (Candace Crowley); and the Fees/Fines/Costs issue (Jessie Rossman).
After this update, we'll discuss the overall workplan of the Planning Body for 2011, including the degree to which we continue to focus on Crossroads implementation versus identifying new issues to pursue.
III. Reports, Updates, Information Sharing
We want to keep the Planning Body informed about these issues. We apologize again that we ran out of time at the January meeting before receiving reports from all these groups (so we've reversed the order).
Presenters are invited to give written or brief oral reports. We appreciate written reports that can be distributed before the meeting. If you feel like you need more than 5-10 minutes for your report, please contact Bob Gillett at email@example.com and we will schedule that time. If you have written materials, please send them to Bob electronically.
